This page stems from a Discussion on Robbie Wright's blog, Open Source Software and CUs. Alot of terms were getting thrown around and I wanted this to be an area to "clear the fog" about some of them, and also the difference between many on them. Feel free to add as you see fit :)

"Security" is NOT the same as "Liability"

I chose to host the session on this topic in particular because I find that in my experience the biggest challenge isn't necessarily to discover the next 'thing' to do (the list is long believe me!) the challenge that we often face working within a fairly conservative industry is how to rally the organization around embracing change -- ie how to get a new idea past the corporation's immune system!
Our group in this session was comprised primarily ofweb 2.0 companies and consultants (Trabian, Wesabe etc.) not Credit Union or bank representatives (I think I was the only one) so we each approached the topic from unique perspectives.
and I hoped I'mhoping by sharing this knowledge itmay help others thinking or contemplating going down the same path.
Web 2.0 seemed to be a perfect fit for our institution. ING Direct has a handful of "cafe" locations in Canada and the US, much like BECU's minibranches: no teller/cashier services, but employees who can walk prospective clients through the account-opening or loan application process, ATMs, and product information. ING's cafes do feature an espresso bar.
Canada's President's Choice Financial was fairly successful operating "cashless, tellerless" mini-branches in Loblaws supermarkets in Canada. Even though word-of-mouth reputation for PC Financial's client service has been middling (anecdotally, poor telephone customer service support), it's been fairly successful because it offers relatively low fees and the convenience of being very well integrated into the grocery store.
grasp subtle differences in the US market, consumers' preferences, causing the banks to flounder even though they offered

I'm sure there were a lot of conversations internally debating thisbut in the end I'm happy that our marketing team elected to take the chance and proceed with the project.
From here as you probably knowWil

I often think about what might have happend had we not had the good fortune to find an internal sponsor. My feeling is that we would have stuck with smaller 'sandbox' trials and continued to educate the organization around what was happening out in the web.
Now only a year later I feel that we most likely would have been pulled into the fray regardless as the social web is now a phenomenon and not a fringe play.
internal pendulum with regard to receptiveness to social media interally at Vancity and Citizensbank is very high change has been positivelyinfluenced towards embracing more new ideas and that the organization this shift has moved forward in created
